КMorsviazsputnik won the sailing race dated for the Day of Marine and inland water fleet officers

Monday, July 6, 2020

On Saturday, July 4 2020, a sailing race was held on the water area of the Khimki reservoir with the support of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport and PROyachting, dedicated to the professional holiday the Day of Marine and inland water fleet officers.

Nine crews, the teams of the Ministry of Transport, Rosmorrechflot,  FBU "Morspassluzhba, FSUE Rosmorport, Russian maritime register of shipping, Channel named after Moscow, Russian River Register, the national team of marine higher education institutions of Rosmorrechflot , - demonstrated their skills and abilities.

At the grand opening of the event, the head of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport, Alexander Poshivay, who took an active part in the competition, leading the Rosmorrechflot team, congratulated his colleagues on their professional holiday and noted: "today all participants in the race will be the first, regardless of the points scored." Time confirmed the fairness of these words. Participants in the competition and numerous fans who came to support their teams received a lot of positive emotions from the water holiday.

Before the start of the race, the draw took place, during which each team was determined its own skipper from the group of professional sailing riders.

The sailing regatta is a series of races in which the crew starts within five minutes. With the opening of the starting procedure, teams enter the route. The task of the race is not only to finish before the rivals, but also to go the distance according to certain rules. Thus any contact with a beacon or another yacht is punished by judges with a turn of 360 degrees. The success of the team significantly depends on the chosen team tactics, the coordinated implementation of the skipper's instructions and, of course, the wind.

The length of the distance depending on the force of the wind and its direction can vary from 1 to 2.5 miles (i.e. from 1.85 to 4.6 km).

Before the start, the race participants were told about the yachts construction, sail management and how to cope with gusts of wind.

Nine modern high-speed sailing yachts of international class J70, capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 knots (36 km/h), dissected the water smooth of the Khimki reservoir for almost two hours. It is at this class that the National Sailing League is held - the largest project of the All-Russian Sailing Federation.

It should be noted that when walking on a yacht, success depends on the coherence of each team member. In addition, real weather conditions make a very important contribution: any wind for such yachts, even squally, is quite permissible, but calmness can become a serious obstacle.

In the course of four races, each of which the participants sought to overcome faster than the rivals, maneuvering along the route marked by beacons, the winner was determined by the sum of the places won.

Unfortunately, the weather was, according to experts, not racing. The crews had to fight not only with each other, but also defeat the weather conditions: the calmness was replaced by small gusts of wind, the bright sun at the first stages of the race was replaced by periodic heavy rain and cloudy sky. The teams passed all the tests with dignity, showing wonderful results and an interesting race.

This year, in a tense and honest fight, the victory went to our Morsviazsatnik team.

The second place took the Romorport team and the third one - Russian maritime register of shipping.

At the end of the competition, the winners and all race participants were solemnly awarded by memorable prizes, diplomas and medals.

Sailing races dedicated to the professional holiday of marine and river fleet workers become traditional, helping to educate fortitude in industry teams, perseverance in achieving a common goal, team spirit, mutual assistance and the desire to achieve new results!
